Thanks for your feedback, so let me clarify. My numbers are purely of TTL standalone entity, excluding TPL Plastech and battery business. If we add these, they would come closer to what you are saying. When management says India business, they are including all these.
I think TPL Plastech being a listed entity, it should be valued separately giving some holding company discount. TTL does not have full control over TPL Plastech’s cash flows. I prefer not to consolidate in such instances. Battery business can be consolidated, but it is a small one in the overall scheme of things.
And my main point is not the numbers forecast but the methodology – how the current valuation should be looked at. Looking at the current consolidated numbers and saying “P/E of 16.5 X and an EV / EBIDTA of 7.7 X” is not the right way. That is the point I was making.

Vineet Jain portfolio (16-12-2023)
There are some sectors where it is generally difficult to make consistent and high RoEs, like EPC players, most railways players, many auto ancillaries etc. A company like Adani green for example makes RoEs of 20% purely on the back of large debt. The ROCE is 8% and so the business itself doesn’t generate good return ratios.
I think my takeaway is to try and avoid such sectors as much as possible, unless there is a special situation, differentiated insight for rising RoEs, or a specific trigger to unlock value that I am working with. A lot of companies in the recent bull run have been rerated on expectations of good growth, from sectors that have had structurally low ROEs. These are the companies that one needs to watch carefully and exit on time.
Talbros Automotive Components Limited (TACL) (16-12-2023)
I think this alone (comparing PE alone between two companies which are not in same business). We need to understand various other aspects. While you are stating about further upside in Talbros, I am not sure how much duration are you taking into consideration. Irrespective of that, the upside in Talbros will be on account of the growth in next 3 years and improvement in margins. Revenue for FY23 have been about 650 Cr. Whereas management is guiding for 2,200 Cr revenue in FY27. That is more than tripling the revenue in matter of 4 years. With such growth, there is a likelihood of operating leverage playing out. That will help to improve margins. Order wins that Talbros have announced during past 6 months provides a decent indication that the company is likely to achieve the guidance. Having said that – if they show case the guided revenue with consistent margins above 15%, the stock can have decent upside even from here imho.
