Sugar Cycles: 7-8 years of losses followed by 2-3 years of super gains! (08-12-2023)
Newsflow of the last few days confirms sugar shortage. However, the hypothesis that the government will completely ban ethanol production based on Syrup/B-Hy Molasses seems extreme and might not be implemented. Why?
- Ethanol Year 23-24 targets 15% blending, and 70% of that demand’s procurement is forecasted from sugar based ethanol, which is almost entirely manufactured from Syrup and B-Hy Molasses. To cover for this much supply in a short span of time, activating alternative (plants and grains) sources seems impossible.
- It would be a bad policy decision – bad publicity to the ethanol mixing story, paralyzes ethanol industry infrastructure that was highly supported by the government till now, and chokes the quick source of earning for mills and in turn payment to the farmers.
A hybrid approach will be a better option- partial redirection from ethanol to sugar besides importing and subsidising the sugar.
Let’s see how it unfolds.

Company has announced the split of acquisition price.
Isn’t this too high for BSL? Current price (around 352) is 20% less to the price on 5th (i.e. 445). What could be the listing price of BSL given the split ratio of acquisition above. Based on this is there a further decline in the share price of BL?
It will be great if someone can throw light on this.

Kaveri seeds company limited — kscl (08-12-2023)
Kaveri business has a seasonality element wherein first quarter of the year, i.e June quarter is the heaviest. Rest of the quarters are much smaller in comparision. So inventory pile up is because of preparation of seeds for next June quarter, or sometimes for the Dec quarter when the Rabi crops come into play.
52 week highs and all time highs strategy (08-12-2023)
The small daily flag mentioned in above post failed and the stock price broke below the lows of the flag at 1242 and went down to post a low of 1193 and recovered today to close at 1261. It retraced nearly 50% of the previous upmove. On the medium to long term the bullish structure seems intact, but on daily time frame, stock price has undergone sharp correction. Need to watch next few days how it plays out. (disc; invested. no trades in last month)
