I couldnt attend the call, but from the Q2 numbers it seems that the gross margin is back near to 15% (13.7% to be exact), does it mean that the mgmt has renegotiated the contracts with the banks? Did the management mention any thing on this?

Why not leave it to the experts? (27-10-2023)
I get this kind feeling a lot lately.
I feel I might never be able to earn more alpha than the investors like Ishmohit from SOIC.
Therefore I feel it is better to take their research service and simply copy his recommendation without doing any research.
Earlier I did not used to get this feeling much as my performance was better than mutual funds in most of the months.
Though now I feel I might be wasting the time and should focus on something productive.
Ishmohit and team takes the investing as a full time career and I might not match his efforts.
If without putting any efforts, I am able to earn more than 20 percent consistent long term cagr which I aim for, why to put the efforts in direct investing.
Still I am giving myself time and observing SOIC research service returns(which has not been disclosed till now). Also there are some other investors I am observing like niveshaay, intelsense and sage one.
One another reason, I am still continuing with the direct investing is due to future cost of the research service that might degrade my returns and it is too much SOIC dependent.
There is one more feeling that goes on, even if I am able to earn some less alpha by investing in mutual funds, is it worth investing directly for some increase in alpha or should I focus on increasing my capital and my life.
Disclosure: Before I discovered SOIC, I was a complete noob.
Though still I am beginner but having a stringent stock filtering process(based on copying others ideas), then stock research using SOIC learnings(plus some books) helps me a lot.
I am still testing my direct investing style and hence less than 30 percent is in direct stocks which I have planned to increase.
I am not currently subscribed to any SOIC service.

What I have understood after reading the annual report, is that they are counting growth mostly from a couple of areas
→ Increasing number of airports, more airports are being built or going to be operational in next 5-10 years, more airports more lounges. https://timesproperty.com/news/post/upcoming-airport-projects-in-india-blid4421
→ The other growth area will be the pick up of debit-credit cards in the growing middle class in the country. In India, there are around a 86million credit cards and around 945 million Debit cards, In comparison China has 10 times these numbers, The Company expects that more people using debit/credit cards can/will have a trickle-down impact on the usage of lounges in airports as well.
→ They are also looking to expand in the international lounge market but not sure how big this opportunity could be for the company.

As the discussion is happening on VP, I guess any member who has spent some time in the forum, reading, learning, will become relatively matured, so making costly mistakes don’t happen. Even, if one wants to venture into SME, I assume he would put in the necessary effort, and is well aware of the risks. My limited point is that, after a few years in the market, except for an odd instance here and there, we mature and don’t act without reason.
Again, when we gain some experience across indices, large, mid and small, and are aware of what is happening, we would know that, the alpha that is generated my active MFs is becoming hard to come by. There may be some tech advantage, some analytical perspective or futuristic vision with some managers, who go ahead and may get rewarded handsomely, but others may catch up soon. And the mediocre performance can be generated from own investments even with large caps with some mid caps, without any worry about a fund manager resigning. If time is precious, then yes, certain portion of the total capital can be allocated here. There are fund houses like Quantum or PPFAS who have investing philosophies, but there could be underperforming periods for them, and we should not feel bad at such times.
This is absolutely true. When we have a big ladder to climb in our profession, the focus should be on climbing the ladder, more so when the pay off is good, which in turn can be invested in the market. Not just Indian, but other markets too.
We can always split the capital between stocks, both for long term and short term, many indices to choose from, plain and strategical, active MFs, debt, gold/silver, and everything else that is available in the markets today. It all boils down to what we want, and what time we have.
Someone in the forum used to be active in a thread, and when someone else asked if he is still active, the answer was that, he is not active and that he moved away to index investing.
So if we have time, and are passionate, inclined towards learning, can enjoy the ups and downs, getting better which is felt internally and is visible in the numbers, and if we are confident that we can manage our money better than giving it to managers, I guess, there is a strong case to do this.
I am both a long term investor and a short term speculator, so take my views with some salt.

3 quick questions:
-
Does anyone know anything on its succession plan? They had mentioned they will appoint a global CEO, mostly laterally.
The 2 daughters of Bhadreshwar Shah are also on the board for quite some time but it doesn’t look like they would be successors -
What is the difference between grinding media balls and castings?
