INR Ends Flat As Gains From Local Equities Were Offset By Dollar Strength Overseas (13-02-2024)
The Indian rupee settled flat at 83 against the US dollar on Tuesday, as the support from a rally in domestic equities was negated by a strong greenback overseas and rising crude oil prices. Local equities were driven by positive macroeconomic data that showed India's retail inflation softened to a three-month low of 5.1 percent in January on moderating food price growth and industrial output rose at a faster-than-expected pace of 3.8 percent year-on-year in December after easing sharply in the previous month. The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex ended the session up 482.70 points, or 0.68 percent, at 71,555.19 while the broader NSE Nifty index settled 127.20 points, or 0.59 percent, higher at 21,743.25. At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at 83 against the dollar, and touched an intraday high of 82.98 and a low of 83.02.

At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at 83 against the dollar, and touched an intraday high of 82.98 and a low of 83.02.
The rupee finally settled at 83.00 (provisional), unchanged from its previous close.
On Monday, the rupee appreciated 7 paise to close at 83 against the US dollar.
Meanwhile, India's industrial production growth slowed to 3.8 per cent in December 2023, mainly due to poor performance of mining and power generation segments, according to official data released on Monday.
Retail inflation declined to a three-month low of 5.1 per cent in January, mainly due to subdued prices of vegetables, fruits and other food items, according to government data released on Monday.

EURUSD is finding some solace after staying near a two-month low lately. The small gains in the pair came on the back of economic data from the Eurozone docket that showed ZEW Indicator of Economic Sentiment for Germany rose for a seventh consecutive month to 19.9 in February 2024, reach ing its highest level in a year. Economic Sentiment for the Euro Area increased by 2.3 points to 25 in February 2024 the highest in one year. EURUSD however continues to stay pressured amid a strong dollar staying around 104 mark ahead of US inflation data later today. The pair is quoting at $1.0791, up 0.07% on the day. On the NSE, EURINR futures are trading at 89.55, almost unchanged on the day.
