Market capitalisation of BSE-listed firms hits new peak of Rs 434.9 trn (14-06-2024)
The market capitalisation of BSE-listed firms hit another record high of Rs 434.88 lakh crore on Friday as the BSE benchmark scaled new closing peak, rallying for the third day running.
Rising for the third straight session, the 30-share BSE Sensex climbed 181.87 points, or 0.24 per cent, to settle at a new closing peak of 76,992.77. During the day, it jumped 270.4 points, or 0.35 per cent, to 77,081.30.
The NSE Nifty rallied 66.70 points, or 0.29 per cent, to hit a record closing high of 23,465.60. Intra-day, it climbed 91.5 points, or 0.39 per cent, to hit a fresh all-time high of 23,490.40.
Following the rally in equities, the market capitalisation of BSE-listed companies hit a fresh all-time high of Rs 4,34,88,147.51 crore (USD 5.21 trillion). In three days of rally, investors' wealth has gone up Rs 7.93 lakh crore.

Domestic markets notched solid gains on Friday, fueled by optimism surrounding the upcoming budget in July. The Nifty 50 plunged to 23,334.25 at the open but staged a dramatic comeback, reaching a record high of 23,490.40 by the closing bell. The Indian rupee consolidated in a narrow range and settled 2 paise lower at 83.56 (provisional) against US dollar on Friday, as positive domestic markets and a decline in crude oil prices supported the rupee, while strong US Dollar and FII outflows capped sharp gains. Indian shares rose modestly on Friday to extend gains for a fourth straight session. The benchmark S&P/BSE Sensex ended the session up 181.87 points, or 0.24 percent, at 76,992.77 while the broader NSE Nifty index closed at 23,465.60, up 66.70 points, or 0.29 percent, from its previous close. At the interbank foreign exchange, the local unit opened at 83.54 and finally settled for the day lower by 2 paise at 83.56 (provisional) against the American currency.

Chinese stocks hit by tariff jitters (14-06-2024)
Chinese bourses saw extended selling after the EU unveiled steep tariffs of between 17% to 30% on the import of Chinese electric vehicles. The EU trailed the U.S. in imposing tariffs on Chinas fast-growing EV sector. But unlike the U.S., the EU does represent a major market for Chinese EV makers. The tariffs ramped up concerns that the EU and the U.S. could impose more restrictions on Chinese imports, while Beijing could also announce retaliatory measures, denting relations between the worlds largest economies.
