Thanks for bringing this point up. As a consumer, Titan conjures up a more premium, quality product image in my mind. Though I am not sure if it does the same to others. Timex is trying to move up the value chain, bringing in more international brands and higher ASP products.
That said, I don’t think the two players are competing against each other. The market is too large and growing. Supply is also widely dispersed and fragmented. In this situation, what the firms need to do is optimize operations, focus on select segments or sub segments and execute well on the marketing and distribution front. Whoever does that will thrive.
