Former finance minister P Chidambaram has said that Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from the Lok Sabha would bolster the Congress party’s chances in next year’s general election, as the ruling BJP has made the Congress its “prime target”. Though the BJP thinks that eliminating the Congress party from the electoral battleground would make regional or state-specific parties easier targets, Chidambaram said that the Congress party could not be eliminated and regional parties would “rise and fight”. Chidambaram believes a stronger Congress will be a major force in the 2024 election and that regional parties will play a crucial role.
