2019 Defamation Case: Court rejects Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s plea for stay on conviction
The decision of the Sessions Court would mean that Gandhi would continue to stand disqualified as a member of Lok Sabha. He was disqualified as an MP after the magisterial court had pronounced its judgement on March 23. Gandhi was been convicted under sections 499 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code and given the maximum penalty of two years of imprisonment.
