Shelly Oberoi of AAP has been elected as the mayor of Delhi after BJP candidate Shikha Rai withdrew her nomination. The election for the positions of mayor and deputy mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) were held today. The outcome of the elections will have implications on the functioning of the Standing Committee, which plays a crucial role in local civic governance. The post of mayor in the national capital sees five single-year terms on a rotation basis.
