The Rashtriya Janata Dal in India criticised a recent ruling by Patna High Court ordering the halt of a government-conducted caste survey. The RJD, the largest member of the ruling alliance in Bihar, stated that “[i]nstitutions become an ‘obstruction’ in matters of social justice,” and noted that the state legislature had unanimously backed the survey. The RJD argued that fixing accuracy on caste census would empower marginalised and backward sectors.
