“Want to ban polygamy in state, will form expert committee to check provisions”: Assam CM Himanta Sarma
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that the state government plans to establish a committee of legal experts to investigate whether the region has the authority to forbid polygamy using a state act. Sarma stated that discussions would be held with stakeholders including legal experts to evaluate the 1937 Muslim Personal Law (Shariat) Act alongside Article 25 of the Constitution of India.
