The European Central Bank is expected to raise interest rates again on Thursday, making this the eighth consecutive rise. Although the Eurozone is falling into recession, the Frankfurt bank is determined to continue its fight against inflation, which is still three times above the ECB’s 2 per cent target. China’s central bank has also cut a key interest rate today and pumped billions into financial markets, as more data showed that the world’s second-largest economy was flagging.
