When I see a listed company advertisement featuring any Bollywood superstars, my gut feelings say something wrong. Not sure if it’s just a coincidence or if promoters do it to get retail attention, hide something fishy, or just want to sell out at peak?
I collected few examples of it during Sep 2022
- Kwality Ltd. Ad featuring Akshay Kumar , Starts rolling out in 2017
.and by 2018 the financials are in bad shape, and then its goes bust…
- PC Jwellers. Ad featuring Akshay and Twinkle –
Starts rolling out in late 2017
… and by 2019, the same result…
- MT educare Ad featuring Amitabh Bachchan starting in mid 2016
… and again by 2016 see the price chart
- DHFL Ad featuring Shahrukh Khan starts sometime in 2016
And by 2018-19, you know the result
Also, not just Bollywood stars, companies do rope in popular faces to hide problems with their balance sheet.
I can see a few companies (listed&unlisted) doing the same. They have very bad financial metrics and their ads are featuring popular faces, some latest examples
Piramal enterprise – Ads feat. Ajay Devgn,
Byju’s – Ads feat. Shahrukh Khan,
Zomato – Ads feat. Hrithik Roshan
(as of Sep 2022)
The idea to rope in superstars for the ad is usually done to popularize products & lift sales, but sometime promoters might be playing mind games to improve the likability of their product, so that it could be sold/disposed of at favourable price.
What is the best way to figure out which is which?
