The National Stock Exchange (NSE) is seeking approval from the Securities Exchange Board of India to offer derivatives based on its bond indexes, with plans to launch the corporate debt product by September. This move is part of the Indian government’s efforts to boost the corporate bond market, which is struggling to gain trading traction, with a view to reducing corporate dependence on bank lending. The exchange also plans to debut futures for government bond indexes at a later date.
