Bengal’s mid-day meal funding cut by Rs 180 cr due to ‘overreporting’ of meals
The Union Education Ministry has cut down central assistance from ₹1,446.73 crore to ₹1,267.08 crore, citing the findings of the 13th Joint Review Mission (JRM) for West Bengal’s implementation of the flagship scheme. The JRM was constituted by the Centre days after Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal assembly Suvendhu Adhikari (BJP) alleged misappropriation of funds sparking a political uproar earlier this year.
