Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 index closed lower on Thursday as a result of US Federal Reserve chief Jerome Powell’s warning of more interest rate hikes. The Nikkei index fell 0.92 percent on the back of Powell’s suggestion that further rate hikes were necessary to tackle the underlying inflation. Consequently, US indices all fell overnight. Chip-linked shares were among Tokyo’s losers, with Advantest and Tokyo Electron declining by 6.86 percent and 4.57 percent respectively. On the upside, Toyota ended up 0.99 percent.
