Trinamool wins big, BJP distant second in Bengal Panchayat Polls

The rural body elections were considered a key test for Bengal’s ruling Trinamool and opposition BJP ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Out of the 341 panchayat samitis, results for 141 have been announced. The Trinamool has won 129, followed by the BJP at nine and the Left Front at three at the time of reporting. According to poll analysts, a shift in the tribal vote bank away from the BJP and a clear division of the opposition votes benefitted the Trinamool.
