Nagaland government opposed to implementation of UCC: Minister

The Nagaland government has appealed to the Law Commission of India for an exemption from the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). Nagaland Minister for Power & Parliamentary Affairs K G Kenye said that the state has “resented” the imposition of UCC, since it is a direct threat to Nagas’ religious and customary practices. Kenye also claimed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured the exempting of some tribal states, such as Nagaland, from the UCC.
