Former Congress MLA Ashwani Sekhri has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of the state unit president, Sunil Jakhar. Sekhri met Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi to express his intention to join the party, ahead of his formal joining. He served as Punjab MLA from 1985 to 2012 and was minister in the Amarinder Singh government.
