AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi expressed concerns that the Archaeological Survey of India’s report into the Gyanvapi mosque complex may open the floodgates for “a thousand Babris,” and hoped that the observation made in the Ayodhya judgment regarding the sanctity of the Places of Worship Act must not be dishonoured. The Supreme Court refused to stay the Allahabad High Court order allowing the ASI to conduct a scientific survey at the 17th-century mosque complex in Varanasi to determine if it was built on a pre-existing temple.
