The Congress party has criticized a bill that seeks to regulate the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners. The party alleged that the bill is an attempt to make the poll watchdog a “total puppet” of the Prime Minister. Congress called on all democratic parties to oppose the proposed legislation. A bill seeks to set up a procedure for the transaction of business by the Election Commission of India. According to the bill, the future CEC and ECs will be selected by a three-member panel headed by PM.
