The Chairman of Rajya Sabha, Jagdeep Dhankhar, has referred the three proposed laws, which will replace the Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure and Indian Evidence Act, to the Standing Committee on Home Affairs for examination. The bills were introduced in the Lok Sabha by Home Minister Amit Shah on August 11th, aiming to transform India’s criminal justice system. The committee, which has members from both Houses of Parliament, has been asked to submit its report within three months.
