Nagaland govt moves resolution denouncing Forest Conservation (Amendment) Act, UCC
The government of Nagaland plans to denounce the Forest Conservation (Amendment) Act and the proposed Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state assembly. The government has expressed reservations about both acts and has held consultative meetings with tribal bodies and civil society organizations. Concerns have been raised that these acts may infringe on the special rights guaranteed to Nagas under Article 371A of the Constitution. The government has also requested exemption from the UCC, with the assurance from the Union Home Minister that it is being considered.
