Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the Congress nominee in the one-nation-one-poll committee, has declined the position, stating that the committee was designed to reach predetermined conclusions. The Congress party had previously criticized the committee for undermining Indian democracy and excluding opposition representatives. Chowdhury also expressed concerns about the timing and feasibility of implementing the idea before the general elections. The Congress party further rejected the committee, calling it an attempt to sabotage parliamentary democracy and questioning the exclusion of opposition leader Mallikarjun Kharge.
