The Congress party has criticized the Modi government for failing to conduct the decadal Census due in 2021, claiming that 14 crore Indians would be excluded from their food entitlements as a result. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh called the government “inept and incompetent” and said that not conducting the Census is an unprecedented failure.
