A generalized statement can be given for MFs, but it may not necessarily applicable to stocks, in the sense that, there will be some losers, and some winners beyond our expectations, and these stocks could be large, mid or small. Depending upon a lot of factors fundamental, technical, global, local, and our own understanding, investing psychology, affordability of time and money, and a plethora of other reasons, we may choose to trim our positions, exit or stay put.
And with the expansion of market, and the explosion of information, statements that were given w.r.t MFs are changing, so I guess, no such statements can be made w.r.t stocks now in real time, even if they were made some 30 years ago, when our market was definitely not like this. There will be always be exceptions, of course. There will be always be someone who get benefited by being first, bold or going against the crowd.
