Education minister Chandra Shekhar of Bihar has sparked controversy by comparing ancient scriptures like the Ramcharitmanas to “potassium cyanide”. He claimed that these texts contain regressive thoughts and that they should not be consumed like a meal with sprinkles of poison. Chandra Shekhar faced backlash from his own party as well as rival political parties for his remarks. The BJP accused him of insulting the Sanatan Dharma, while JD(U) criticized his statement for not respecting all religions.
