The West Bengal government has expressed its support for the Supreme Court’s decision to establish a search committee to appoint vice-chancellors in state-run universities. The state government has stated that it will comply with the court’s directives and wants the committees to be formed as soon as possible. The apex court has asked the governor, the state government, and the University Grants Commission to suggest three to five names for the search committee. The court will hear the matter again on September 27. The government is currently in a dispute with the governor over the running of the state’s universities.
