Cong alleges Modi govt removed ‘Secular & Socialism’ from Preamble, BJP says it never existed originally

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury raised concerns over the new copies of the Constitution handed to politicians in the new Parliament building, as they did not contain the words ‘socialist’ and ‘secular’. The original Preamble of the Constitution included these words, which were added during the Emergency through a constitutional amendment in 1976. The BJP responded by stating that the copies given were the original version, and the words were added later through an amendment.
