The women’s reservation bill was passed in the Lok Sabha, which was seen as a major step towards stronger participation of women in politics. However, the exclusion of an OBC sub-quota from the draft legislation was criticized. K Kavitha, an advocate for women’s representation, had called on political parties to prioritize the passage of the bill. The bill was eventually passed with a majority vote. The Rajya Sabha is expected to take up the bill on Thursday. The Special Session of Parliament began on Monday and will continue till Friday.
