Protests erupt in Karnataka as SC refuses to interfere with orders to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu
Protests have broken out in various parts of Karnataka after the Supreme Court upheld orders to release 5,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu. Farmers and pro-Kannada organizations staged protests in Mysuru, Mandya, and Bengaluru, expressing their anger and urging the state government not to release water. The protests come as the Cauvery and Kabini basin taluks have been declared drought-hit, and farmers argue that the orders do not consider the water levels in reservoirs, standing crops, and drinking water needs of Karnataka.
