RBI proposes changes in wilful defaulter norms
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has proposed tighter norms for the treatment of wilful defaulters, requiring banks and lenders to examine all accounts with outstanding amounts of Rs 25 lakh and more to identify deliberate non-repayment of loans. The draft Master Direction on Treatment of Wilful Defaulters and Large Defaulters also expands the definition of wilful default and mandates a review process within six months of an account being classified as a non-performing asset.
