The state of Karnataka plans to challenge the orders of the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) in the Supreme Court. The CWRC had ordered Karnataka to release 3000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu, but the chief minister states that there is no water to release. The opposition parties, BJP and JDS, are also protesting against the government’s handling of the Cauvery river water issue. This latest development may lead to a state-wide bandh and further unrest.
