Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has blamed substandard construction work for the flash floods in Teesta River. He stated that the maximum damage occurred after the 1200 MW dam in Chungthang broke. Tamang visited the flood-affected areas and relief camps to assess the situation and announced that a committee will be formed to investigate the incident. The government is prioritizing rescue efforts and aims to restore electricity and water supply. The death toll stands at 26, with 142 still missing, and over 22,000 families have been affected. The government has allocated a relief package of Rs 25 crore for Mangan District and Rs 15 crore for Gangtok, Pakyong, and Namchi districts.
