Opposition alleged the BJP is remote controlling the region and is scared to hold elections here. The protest was held at Maharaja Hari Singh park, with participation of a sizeable number of political workers. However, National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah and PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti, both former chief ministers of J&K, could not attend the protest.
