The Congress party in Chhattisgarh is likely to deny nominations to around 20 of its sitting MLAs in an effort to overcome incumbency issues and retain power in the upcoming elections. The ministers in the current government will be re-nominated, highlighting the party’s governance record. The central election committee has finalized candidates for 60 out of the total 90 assembly segments, with more announcements expected soon. The party aims to field more women and youths and give prominence to Scheduled Tribes and other backward classes.
