Despite the severe drought in Karnataka, the state’s chief minister, Siddaramaiah, has assured that it will not affect the grandeur of the Mysuru Dasara celebrations. The festival, which represents Karnataka’s culture and heritage, will go on as planned. The government had previously cancelled the Hampi festival due to the drought, which drew criticism from the opposition BJP. The Dasara celebrations, a tradition since the 15th century, include the famous Mysore Palace being adorned with thousands of lights and an elephant procession carrying the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari.
