Maharashtra speaker to club disqualification pleas
Maharashtra assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar has decided to club several disqualification petitions into six groups for hearing, a move opposed by the Uddhav Thackeray faction. Narwekar announced that petitions in the first group would be taken up, followed by the second group. The Uddhav Thackeray faction had wanted all 36 petitions to be clubbed into one and heard by the Speaker. The Supreme Court has given the Speaker until October 30 to provide a timeline for completing the hearings. Narwekar is expected to consult with Solicitor General Tushar Mehta in Delhi next week.
