Trinamool Congress MP Jawhar Sircar has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Visva Bharati university Chancellor Biduyt Chakraborty of taking credit for UNESCO declaring Santiniketan as a World Heritage site. Sircar shared a photograph of a plaque installed by Chakraborty, mentioning Modi and Chakraborty as the central university’s chancellor and VC. Sircar stated that UNESCO honored Rabindranath Tagore and his legacy, not the university administration. The BJP spokesperson dismissed Sircar’s comments. Visva Bharati spokesperson declined to comment. Weeks after the UNESCO honor, Visva-Bharati authorities seek the return of responsibility for a road lined with heritage buildings from the West Bengal government.
