The Maharashtra government has accepted its first report from a committee led by retired judge Sandeep Shinde, tasked with determining the process for granting Kunbi caste certificates to Marathas in the Marathwada region. This move follows ongoing demands for reservation benefits. The government has also initiated the issuance of Kunbi certificates and plans to gather fresh data on the Maratha community’s social and educational backwardness. These decisions come in response to protests and violence, with cases filed against Maratha protestors for alleged violence.
