Former footballer Bhaichung Bhutia merged his Hamro Sikkim Party with the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), led by Pawan Chamling. Bhutia, previously with the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha, cited the SDF’s cleansing of corruption and advocacy for Sikkim as reasons for joining. Despite prior support for the ruling party, Bhutia criticized its failure to bring promised changes. He compared his alliance with SDF to Messi’s link with Argentina for winning the World Cup, marking his political journey from the Trinamool Congress to establishing Hamro Sikkim Party.
