In a hearing on Friday, the Uttar Pradesh government assured the Supreme Court of reinforcing security for incarcerated gangster-politician Mukhtar Ansari within Banda jail. The assurance came in response to a plea by Ansari’s son, Umar Ansari, seeking his father’s transfer to a prison outside Uttar Pradesh. Umar’s concerns stem from the genuine threat to Mukhtar’s life, given his political affiliations.
