On Tuesday, the Lok Sabha deliberated on three bills – Bharatiya Nyaya (Second) Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha (Second) Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Bill. These bills aim to replace the Indian Penal Code, 1860, Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, and the Indian Evidence Act, 1872. Initially introduced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the monsoon session, the bills underwent modifications based on parliamentary committee suggestions. Amid the suspension of 49 Opposition members, BJP MPs endorsed the bills, proposing increased penalties for various crimes, particularly those against women.
