Vijayakanth, actor and founder of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) political party, passed away at the age of 71 after testing positive for Covid-19. The Tamil Nadu government announced full state honors for his funeral. Known as “Captain,” he had a successful film career with over 150 movies, earning the title “Captain” after his hundredth film, “Captain Prabhakaran.”
