Law ministry’s plea to drop ‘Single Electoral Roll’ assurance rejected by Parliamentary panel
The parliamentary committee on government assurances rejected the Law Ministry's request to drop the parliamentary 'assurance' on a single electoral roll. The ministry had sought the dropping of the assurance, citing ongoing examination and the complexity of implementing electoral reforms within a specific timeframe. The committee termed the ministry's contention as "untenable" and called for the expeditious implementation of the assurance, emphasizing that once given, assurances should be brought to their logical end.
