Hemant Soren, the youngest chief minister of Jharkhand, was arrested by the ED in a money laundering case linked to alleged land fraud. He was not the first choice of his father, Shibu Soren, to inherit his political legacy. Hemant’s political career began after the untimely death of his brother Durga. Born in Nemra village near Hazaribag, he had a brief stint in education before entering politics. He became the youngest CM of Jharkhand in 2013, but his tenure was short-lived. Known for his love of badminton, bicycles, and books, Hemant has been a strong advocate for tribal rights and social welfare initiatives. His arrest led to Champai Soren being named his successor.
