The Karnataka Legislative Council rejected the Hindu Religious Institutions & Charitable Endowment (Amendment) Bill, 2024, which aimed to collect more taxes from state-owned temples. The bill, which had passed in the assembly, was defeated in a voice vote in the council, where BJP and JD(S) joined forces against it. Congress, which has a majority in the assembly, may postpone reintroducing the bill until after the Lok Sabha elections.
