The problem with renewable energy storage is
(1) Batteries for grid scale application becomes bulky and maintenance cost /recurrent replacement cost is high
(2) Pumped hydro storage system can not be built everywhere. It requires two large storage reservoirs – one at higher elevation and the other at lower level. You can not get every where. Hilly area , perhaps more suitable.
So , now perhaps the future lies in Solar wind energy to Green hydrogen via electrolyser and then Green hydrogen to Electricity generation via fuel cell. Grid stability is ensured.
Currently the cost is higher , but as technology for fuel cell evolves, cost should come down. electrolyser – fuel cell- Grid is an established technology…is the ultimate for power generation.
