West Bengal’s opposition parties have criticized Trinamool leader Sheikh Shahjahan’s arrest as a “stage-managed drama” despite celebrations in Sandeshkhali continuing. The arrest was viewed as a mutual arrangement between the police and Shahjahan, while CPI-M leaders argued that Shahjahan was already in the police’s safety net. BJP Bengal leadership called the arrest a face-saving act, while CPI-M state secretary Mohd Salim criticized the arrest as a “face-saving activity.”
