Shahjahan Sheikh, a key accused in sexual assault and land grab in Sandeshkhali, Kolkata, has been arrested after being on the run for 55 days. He was remanded to 10 days of police custody and has been removed from all party positions by the TMC. Sheikh’s rise to power started during the Left Front rule and he later switched sides to join the TMC, where he played a crucial role in the party’s victories.
